UPDATE: 10.1.19 Today, we raised the fundraising goal for the Pinuya Water Project from $4,000 to $8,000!
We are supporting the Pinuya tribe one well at a time. With each well, we get closer to their realizing their full vision of having 3 wells built on their land. Three wells that, together, provide a sustainable source of clean water for everyone in their tribe. In supporting the Pinuya tribe, we are supporting the everyday protectors of the Amazon, and the holders of ancient healing wisdom of the forest.
We successfully raised enough money ($4,000) for the 1rst well (in just two weeks), and the process of constructing that 1rst well is already underway.
While the first well is being built we are hoping to raise enough money for the 2nd well. This next $4,000 will go to support the construction of the 2nd well.
Every donation counts. There is no donation too large are too small..... every donation shows that we care, that we hear their request for help, and that we support their work as healers and protectors of the forest.
Please stay tuned for regular updates on the construction of the first well! It's a big and exciting undertaking!
ORIGINAL POST: 9/10/19 The Pinuya tribe (part of Huni Kuin nation located in the Western part of the Brazilian Amazon) have been stewards and protectors of nature for many generations. They are keepers of ancient precious healing knowledge that is vital for humanity and they are asking for our help......
Fate recently lead us to visit the Pinuya tribe where we had the honor and privilege of attending their annual healing festival.
At the festival, we got a glimpse into the deep relationship this tribe has cultivated with their land and their extensive capacity to heal many of the ailments that are increasingly common in modern civilizations today...depression and anxiety to name a few.
For the past 25 years the Pinuya people have worked hard to reforest their land, formerly taken from them and destroyed for agricultural use. Their land is now once again flourishing with lush and beautiful rainforest.
They are truly protectors of the forest in ways that no NGO or foreign aid organization can be.
Despite their success at reforesting their land, the Pinuya are struggling to sustain their people. They are committed to preserving their culture, their deep connection with the earth, and their ancient healing wisdom, and they feel called to share those gifts with others, living outside of the rainforest.
To do this, they also need help, they need help to provide regular clean water to the 200 people living in their village. In recent years, they have been experiencing more extreme weather and have had long periods, sometimes weeks at a time, when potable water was not available.
For this reason, they (through us) are reaching out for help. They have a goal of building three additional wells in their village (to supplement the one that already exist), so that clean and safe water can reliably be available to everyone in their tribe. We will be building one well at a time so that there is regular and steady progress. Each well costs $4,000 each ($12,000 total). We are focusing on one well at a time because of the urgency in making potable water reliably available.
We will be continually providing updates (including pictures of progress along the way) as well as additional information to keep anyone interested in this cause informed on the plans and execution of this project. We are working closely with lead members of the tribe, communicating with them on a weekly basis, with plans to visit multiple times a year to ensure that this project is successfully completed. Please stay tuned for more info and updates and share freely with others who may be interested!
Any amount you can donate to this cause would be deeply appreciated. These donations will go directly to helping the Pinuya build the water infrastructure that will allow them to continue to serve as protectors of the Amazon, which is needed more now than ever before. For those who cannot donate, please keep this cause in your thoughts and prayers.
With deep gratitude,
Ann, Ari, Ryan, and the Pinuya Tribe.
Notes:
_The Pinuya are also open and interested in hearing from experts in sustainable and green infrastructure. Please contact us if you can provide support in this way.
_If we end up raising more than the amount needed for the first well, we welcome that wholeheartedly and will put it toward the 2nd and 3rd wells.
