On Monday, July 16, 2018, I received a call at work stating that my mammogram came back abnormal. I had been diagnosed with stage 1 invasive breast cancer, which quickly turned into stage 2 by my next appointment. Initially I thought the surgery would be later this year, but unfortunately the cancer is moving rapidly and I will be having a double mastectomy before the end of August 2019. It went from possibly having surgery to NEEDING to have surgery. After the procedure I will being chemo therapy.
As a single mother with one son in college and another one just entering high school, never did I expect to have these medical bills on top of taking care of my family. I have been working everyday up until just having received my surgery date (which is in two weeks) so I will have to take medical leave soon. This is extremely hard on me be it that I am the primary provider for my family.
Last year I walked in the Jacksonville Sista Strut in honor of my grandmother, Helen. Who would have ever thought I would become the one needing support in a fight against breast cancer.
I appreciate all the love, thoughts, prayers and well wishes as I begin this journey to fight breast cancer. Please feel free to post any words of encouragement on my Facebook page.
Sincerely,
Monique Woodlon Blue
