A Father's Story
I want to share a story about my son, soon to be 17 years old. When he was two years old, he could not speak or make any eye contact. He had tremors in his right arm, and many other challenges. After extensive testing at Miami Children’s Hospital, the head of neurology sat me down and told me that my son was autistic and would probably never speak. Of course this devastated me for a period of time.
When the self-pity wore off I got my son enrolled in a program called ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens). This was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life; he was 2-1/2 years old. The program was new but the dedication of his teacher and speech and occupational therapist was heaven sent. On December 7th, 2002 I was picking him up from school and asked him if he was ready to go home. He looked at me, smiled, blinked his eyes and said, “Yes Daddy”. The director of the program couldn’t believe he had said that! A MIRACLE! I have been living this miracle for thirteen years. My son with Asperger Autism, now has an extremely high IQ, is creative and full of love. He even sings in the church choir! A living MIRACLE, full of love. I learned first hand about the power of commitment, PRAYER, and perseverance.
I recently formed this non-profit foundation EXPECT A MIRACLE 2, my son being miracle number 1, to help the families, parents, and friends of special needs children know that they too can Expect A Miracle. Dedication to overcoming adversity, with lots of love, patience, and determination can and will overcome anything.
The foundation is formed, in place, and has all of the proper documentation. This program is exploding where ever it is shared. With the help of friends and supporters we are building this awareness as well as other tools and programs such as #Pay the Love Forward to support those who live with the experience of Autism.
If you could use a tax deduction or know of others who could help us and would like to be a part of these efforts we would be full of gratitude.
These are difficult times, but our cause is needful, current, and love based.
