Hello, my name is Margaret. Before August 25, 2023, I was an over-the-road truck driver; until I learned that I had a brain tumor and needed surgery immediately.
I went from being a self-sufficient woman with a six-figure income to living on 45% of my salary. I'm unable to return to work. My disability short-term disability ended so I have no income. Medical bills come every day. I live alone.
All I want to do is rebuild my life before all of my expenses force me to become homeless.
I’m raising money for living expenses and to maintain a payment plan for my medical bills until I can work again. What I have found along this path is that if you have cancer there are lots of programs to apply for help. In a strange situation because my tumor is NOT cancer. Every time I apply to a program for help; there is no option for a Benign (non-cancerous) brain tumor.
My living expenses for rent, health insurance premiums, food, utilities, and transportation. I have no car payment and just basic bills. I must stay close to my medical team here in the Tampa Bay Area at Tampa General Hospital and USF.
I have been applying for grant funding from local organizations and nonprofits as well. My unique diagnosis (non-cancerous tumor) is difficult because some organizations only help cancer patients.
The surgery I had in August removed most of the tumor and radiation is the next step to eradicate the rest of it. My long-term prognosis is very good. I need help to get back to what is expected which is a 100% recovery. I will be self-sustaining again with your help.
