URGENT - Patty needs medical dressings
Donation protected
Patty Lu is a first generation American from a family of refugees, an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and a community organizer centering their practice on the social, cultural, and physical effects of chronic illness. They are also a disability justice advocate and a founding member of Sick In Quarters, a disabled-artist led mutual aid project supporting patient advocacy and care work in and for marginalized communities.
Patty is severely immunocompromised and—due to the Covid-19 crisis—cannot risk seeing doctors, therapists, specialists, and so has not been able to receive any regular treatment. Patty’s care has been on hold since the start of the pandemic, which has left them to fend for themselves however they can, usually through continuous crowd-funding efforts online.
Presently, they have severe ongoing skin infections—yet to be properly diagnosed or treated despite previous interventions with multiple medical specialists—and this requires a constant rotation of sterile medical hydrocolloid dressings, which can’t be found at local pharmacies.
In a given day, Patty uses 5-10 boxes of these dressing to cover and relieve the pain of full-body skin wounds; this means 35-70 boxes—or $550 to $1000 per week.
These dressings cost upwards of $3,000 a month, over $40,000 per year, an expense that is unsustainable for Patty as they remain bed-bound and unable to make a living wage due to chronic illnesses.
Patty does not qualify for state or federal financial aid.
This is an urgent request for Patty, please help us to raise the $2800 minimum required to purchase a bulk order of medical hydrocolloid dressings at wholesale cost.
