Patrick Ragland is a self-employed, residential framer. On December 29, 2017, he fell approximately 12ft from the second floor where he was working. He suffered a severed spleen, internal bleeding and head trauma. He was rushed to Baptist Medical Center South for emergency surgery. During and after surgery, he began hemorrhaging, losing most of his blood. The plasma and platelets he received were unsuccessful in clotting his blood, so he was given a protein to aid in that. Thankfully, it was successful, however it caused reduced circulation to his extremities. This led to what they call dry gangrene and resulted in the amputation of all of his toes, 4 fingers on the left hand, and partial amputation of his four fingers on the right – a devastating injury for someone whose livelihood depends on using his hands.
After six surgeries and several weeks in the hospital, Patrick was released to go home on March 30, 2018, to begin his rehabilitation. Unfortunately, he was denied disability from the Social Security Department. His inability to work combined with astronomical hospital bills has put an impossible burden on his wife and three kids. We have set up this GoFundMe account to help our friend with day-to-day expenses.
