On Monday, April 10th in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC, two of our beloved friends were the victims of a brutal attack. Alex Pass and Eddie Velazquez were assaulted by several men. Alex was struck in the head and throat, violently knocking him to the ground. Eddie went to intervene and was struck in the side of his head as the assailants ran off. Eddie was able to call 911 and both were taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital. Alex and Eddie were the victims of a hate crime.
Alex was bed ridden sustaining a deep cut that required stitches on his left eyebrow, internal bleeding in his neck, multiple bruises, and extreme pain. Eddie has lost hearing in his left ear due to a ruptured eardrum, but was told it will return. Both are suffering emotionally and working through PTSD. There is a fair amount of memory loss due to such trauma of the attack, but they are working with a detective to find their attackers.
Alex and Eddie were given a social worker through a state program to help them with this traumatically stressful attack. Unfortunately, Alex recently lost his health insurance. This program may be able to assist with some medical bills, but they have no idea what they are up against. With both Alex and Eddie unable to work for a period and living in NYC, things like paying rent or buying groceries may become a larger struggle for them.
We know how much these men are loved by their friends and family, and how we all want to show them that love and support in any way we can. This account is setup to help ease some of their financial burden during this terrible time. Their focus should be on healing emotionally and not having to worry about food on their plates, a roof over their head, or a future of medical debt.
