
Palisades Montessori COVID Staff Fundraiser

Please help us to raise funds for the wonderful staff of Palisades Montessori Center. As you know, the CA State Superintendent just announced that schools in California will not be able to allow students to return to school before the end of the school year-and sadly, our teachers are not being paid during the closure. Without salaries, they’re really struggling with rent, food and other necessities - but fortunately, we can help by donating directly to them through a fundraising campaign organized by the parents.
PMC has been a safe, loving and nurturing environment for our children. Whether you are a new family or have been made your way through the red, blue and yellow rooms for many years, we all agree that what makes the school such a special place is the exceptional individuals who take care of our kids. From the moment we drop them off, we are confident in their care and feel the loss most now, when they’re gone. Now we can come together as a community to help support these wonderful people who have supported our families.
Originally we thought we might do separate fundraisers for each class but realized it would be unfair if one room raised significantly more funds than the other rooms. We feel all our staff should feel appreciated and the goal of this is to come together as the school and raise at least $10,000—but let’s try for more! GoFundMe takes 2.9% in transaction fees, plus $0.30 per donation. At the end of the fundraiser, we will provide everyone with proof of the funds and payment going directly to our beloved teachers.

Update 4/17/20:
Thank you ALL for your tremendous support with this fundraiser! We would like to get the funds over to the PMC staff as quickly as possible. In order to withdraw, GoFundMe requires us to share our withdrawal and distribution plan to the beneficiaries on this page. We are currently at $23,600, amazing! GoFundMe will deduct $697 in fees (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction) for a net total of $22,903.
After careful consideration, several families came to a decision on the following distribution. The 3 head teachers will receive $4,634.33 each. The 3 assistant teachers will receive $2,500 each. The administrative assistant will receive $1,500. All of the funds will be initially transferred to Janet Kacker's bank account. Janet is a mom with children in both the yellow and blue rooms. She will then issue 7 separate checks to each staff member. Should there be more funds raised, we will use the same ratios as indicated for any additional amount. Janet will also take and share pictures of the checks before handing them off to staff.
