*OUR SEAL & SEA LION PATIENTS ARE IN CRISIS!* UPDATE April 19th 2015
As you have read or seen in the news, sea lions continue to strand along the coast of California. Unlike the sea lion crisis of 2015, we are seeing older pups stranding later into spring, but with the same signs of emaciation and deprived of their natural food source. El Nino's warm water conditions had increased the number of marine mammals not typically seen by stranding centers. These include Guadalupe Fur Seals, Northern Fur Seals and Pacific Harbor Seals. These animals along with the more commonly seen patients (California Sea Lions and Northern Elephant Seals) come to us in grave condition and take an extended amount of time to rehabilitate; in turn requiring more medicine, nutrients, fish and qualified technicians in marine mammal medicine. We are currently going through nearly 800 pounds of fish per day and 70 bottles of Pedialyte (unflavored pedialyte is a key ingredient used to hydrate critical patients).
Urgent financial assistance is needed to treat the animals admitted to Pacific Marine Mammal Center. Your donation will help critical patients, like "Frenzy" (pictured above) receive the necessary medical treatment necessary in order to return her to her ocean home!
THANK YOU!
