Pablo da Silva is a beloved coach of Inter Northshore FC soccer club. He currently coaches the U8 Boys, U14/U15 Boys and U14/15 Girls. While he lives in Milwaukee, he travels to Iowa where he plays as a defender for the Cedar Rapids Rampage. Pablo has touched many lives in our club over the years and has made a lasting impression on many kids and families.
Pablo and his wife, Gabi, were handed some devastating news on October 3rd when Gabi was diagnosed with 'invasive ductal carcinoma'. The tumor is grade 3, about 1.5 cm, and is ER-negative, PR-negative, and HER2-negative. This is known as "Triple Negative Breast Cancer", or TNBC. It appears from the MRI that it has not spread to the lymph nodes. All of this indicates that she is Stage 1. While this type of breast cancer is aggressive and grows very quickly, the prognosis for Stage 1 is extremely promising for full remission, meaning she has every possibility of being cancer free.
Gabi will be doing approximately 5 months of chemotherapy, followed by surgery and possibly radiation therapy. She is also changing her diet to a strict plant-based diet and is participating in several support groups. She is spending several hours a day meditating and participating in group prayer. Pablo and their daughter, Melissa (21 months) are by her side providing their love and support, and Gabi’s sister is taking care of Melissa during her treatments. She remains very positive and in great spirits with unvarying certainty that, with God, she will beat this disease.
