The Great North Air Ambulance Service

The Great North Air Ambulance Service operates three helicopter air ambulances across the North-East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

My dad, John McNeil, was in a serious road traffic accident in 14/01/2015. An accident that's has impacted my family and my dad nearly lost his life. It was the first time this service carried blood on board and my dad was the very first person to receive a blood transfusion at the side of the road.

Weather conditions at this time of the year were extremely bad (heavy winds, snow, ice). However, thankfully, the Great North Air Ambulance helicopter made the decision to fly to the scene of the accident .

They saved his life. We as a family are so grateful.

Because of this, he was able to walk me down the aisle on my wedding day.

A case report has been written and can be found on the Royal Society of Medicine on his injuries and procedures he has went through.

I honestly would never have thought I would ever run a marathon but to do something way out my comfort zone and especially for a amazing cause for these guys is so worth it.
