People to People-International Diplomacy

My name is Elijah Rakha-Sheketoff. I am fourteen-years-old and live in Silverton, Oregon. I recently was accepted into the 2014 People to People International Relations and Diplomacy Summit at George Washington and Colombia Universities. This will be a life changing opportunity for me to meet and work with students from around the world on a model United Nations policy. We will also have the opportunity to visit the United Nations and meet the UN's Iraqi Ambassador, Dr. Hamid A-Bayati.

Politics and world events have been my life's passion. I have been active in my community, volunteering with the food bank, a litter cleanup crew, and spending time at a local therapeutic horseback riding program. I also host a radio book club which often delves into current events and how they affect my generation. Still, no matter how busy I am, I always try to read the New York Times and listen to National Public Radio. At school, I am the source of information on national and international issues. This exciting People to People trip will open my world to new people, ideas and skills I will need to be an effective and positive influence in my community and beyond.

The tuition cost is $2,995.00, but with insurance, spending money, and transportation costs added, I need to raise to $3,650.00.
