Paula's Peace Corps Adventure

My name is Paula, and I am excited to be starting my next life adventure.
In a few short weeks (just less than 7 to be precise) I will be leaving for 27 months to work with the Peace Corps in Malawi, as a next step to fulfilling my lifelong dream of a career serving in community development overseas.
A major part of being successful in this endeavor will be having the proper tools to set off on the right foot; very little of which is pre-existing in my previously First World life. Previous short-term trips (pictures below), while rewarding, have done little in the way of helping me gear up for a long-term excursion.
I am hoping this campaign will help provide the funds necessary for me to stay safe, healthy, and productive on this trip and help establish a foundation of long-term supplies/equipment that will be used throughout my career. This includes:
- Ensuring good communications (via a durable laptop, solar charging capabilities, etc.)
- Keeping me safe in my travels (with appropriate camping & hiking gear that will last in African climates)
- Allowing me to be efficient and productive (through appropriate clothing for rainy and hot, and a few comfort items)
In the next two weeks I need to be able to finance the purchases so items can be purchased, checked out, and packed in time for me to catch my flight.
Being able to do this successfully and correctly is epically important to me. This is the first non-academic step toward achieving something that has always been "what I want to do when I grow up".
Like many people, asking for help is never an easy thing for me, but when it comes it always means the world. Knowing that othe people have faith in my abilities drives me to work harder and is a motivational tool for when the tanks are empty and there is still work to be done.
