15/12/25 Update: VICTORY! https://www.unitetheunion.org/news-events/news/2025/december/newham-mental-health-staff-celebrate-newly-won-pay-and-conditions
Many thanks for all the support.
Outsourced NHS workers at Newham Centre for Mental Health are on strike demanding NHS equivalent pay, terms and conditions.
Domestics, chefs, porters, reception and maintenance staff are employed Grosvenor Facilities Management (GFM) as part of a 30 year PFI deal worth over £213 million.
But while GFM shareholders and their PFI associates fill their pockets with £millions NHS money, the keyworkers actually running and maintaining the hospital are paid poverty wages and denied sick pay, unsocial hours enhancements and union recognition.
These workers are demanding their employer recognises their value and pays the NHS rate for the job.
They have already struck for 26 days this autumn and are planning from 1st-5th September. They plan a further 6 week strike from 17th-30th November and 8th December-4th January.
The GFM workers are some of the lowest paid workers in London's NHS and need your support so they can see this dispute through until victory. Your donations will ensure they get decent strike pay and force their employer to meet their reasonable demands.
Money raised will be distributed by East London Mental Health LE/7113L Unite branch to striking workers.
