Ottis Best Needs Your Help After Heartbreaking Loss

We are reaching out to support our co-worker, Ottis Best, who is facing an unimaginable tragedy. Just two months ago, Ottis lost his 2-month-old baby to SIDS. Now, only days ago, his wife tragically passed away from a heart attack, leaving him to care for their six children alone.

Ottis and his family are currently living and working on a contract near the Texas border, far from family and close support. His wife, a stay-at-home mom, was the primary caregiver for their children. Now, Ottis faces the daunting challenge of raising six kids on his own while navigating this heartbreaking loss.

To help, some of us are organizing a fundraiser selling meals to cover funeral and other immediate expenses. However, we're also seeking additional resources or charities that provide financial assistance in situations like this—particularly for housing support, as Ottis' employer covers his housing through an Airbnb but only if he works a minimum number of hours. Given his bereavement, he will be unable to meet those requirements and is at risk of losing housing.
