Dear friends and family,
At the end of April, I will be traveling to Techiman, Ghana for nine days to volunteer on a surgical mission trip with an organization called Operation International. We will be providing both general and endocrine surgical care including hernia repairs, mass excisions, and thyroidectomies.
Operation International is able to function largely due to donations. Any amount you may consider donating will go toward financing medical supplies and the logistical operations of this trip and the organization in general. All surgeons will otherwise be funding their own travel and transporting medical and surgical supplies.
On a more personal note, I’ve been to Africa several times during the last decade, most recently to Nigeria for a surgical mission at the end of my residency. Global missions work has been a passion of mine since the beginning of my medical career and I am excited at the opportunity to serve and learn in an area with fewer resources. Each of these trips is a sobering reminder that the majority of the world lives in deep poverty. Surgery is a unique and impactful vehicle through which we can help a community, and I invite you to partner with us in trying to change the world… one trip at a time. More information about Operation International LTD: Operation International is a not for profit organization created to provide free medical care to individuals in poor countries. The organization’s main focus is providing long lasting changes by educating the local healthcare providers and donating equipment needed to sustain better medical practice.
