Update: We need to stay in Minnesota but are way over budget. More shutdowns, protests and economic blackouts are taking place throughout this week.
Our role is essential. BT published the first video of the CBP shooting of Alex Pretti, based on a source who witnessed it. When major outlets tried to downplay last Friday's general strike, we made sure to publish aerial footage that would refute the idea that it was a small action. To our knowledge, that’s the only aerial footage that exists of that historic action.

Since January 7, when Renee Nicole Good was killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, the Twin Cities have seen daily protests that run late into the night. BreakThrough News has been there for all of it — filming and publishing viral clips, interviewing students and activists, and writing stories that center the people who are making this movement. This week we’ve sent an expanded team of reporters, videographers, and documentarians to Minnesota to cover the action and to embed directly with organizations preparing for Friday’s shutdown.
If you want independent, movement-grounded reporting from the streets — not punditry from a studio — we need your help right now.
Your donation helps cover:
- travel, lodging, and local transportation for our on-the-ground crew
- protective gear and safety equipment for night reporting
- editing, transcription, and rapid publishing so footage and interviews get out while it matters
Can you chip in today to keep our team in Minnesota through Friday and beyond?
Thank you for standing with independent journalism and with the people in motion.
In solidarity,
— The BreakThrough News Team
If you’ve shared one of our Minnesota clips or interviews this week, consider pairing that share with a donation — it’s how we keep showing up, day after day, and night after night.
