Olivia McKinley, LCH, childhood cancer WARRIOR

Dear friends, family, and supporters,

I hope that this message finds you well. To those who don't know me, hello, my name is Patty and I am Olivia’s mom. I am writing today to share a personal struggle my family and I are currently facing.

Recently, doctors found 2 malignant tumors in my 9-year-old baby girl. One was located on her femur, the other on her spine. The tumor on her femur was removed surgically, but 6 months of chemotherapy were needed to continue the fight.

Olivia is an amazing little warrior. She has been through a lot. She endured months of excruciating pain (pain that would wake her from a deep sleep) before getting the correct diagnosis. Her first orthopedic doctor diagnosed her with psychosomatic pain. I am so grateful that I believed in my daughter and took her to the emergency room. She’s been through surgeries, unable to walk for months, needles (her worst nightmare)….lots and lots of needles, and so on and so on. Her goal, to one day be a professional racer (actually World Champion), is the one thing that keeps her fighting and keeps her strong. Next month, she gets her first post-chemo X-rays, and we pray that there is no growth and no new tumors.

Unfortunately, the cost of her medical treatments has been high and we have been struggling to keep up with expenses. Medicare was denied. My husband got a second firefighter job and I’m doing what I can (there's still a toddler in the house). Despite our best efforts, we are struggling to cover the cost of her treatments, as well as costs and expenses brought on by LCH, and are in desperate need of assistance.
