My name is Brittany, some of you may know me as a local wildlife rehabilitator, some as someone who rescues domestic animals that were dumped and discarded and gives them forever homes, but if you know me in any capacity you know that animals are my heart and soul. Now I never would have imagined I would be asking for help for a personal cause, since it is generally not in my nature to do so, but I need help.
Our sweet cat Luna suddenly became ill a week ago. She refused to eat anything we offered and was just not herself. We immediately brought her to the vet and we discovered she had a bad UTI and elevated liver enzymes. Our vet threw an arsenal of medications our way along with subcutaneous fluids to do at home, and a special food to try to syringe feed her. We did it all religiously and sadly it made little to no impact. Here we are a week later and while she has been making small steps in a positive direction (started to eat on her own, started to come out and lay on our laps again, started to drink on her own, really thought we were turning a corner), today we had a lab recheck and her liver enzymes are even higher and we still do not know why. Tomorrow she is scheduled for an ultrasound to try to get some answers.
As you can imagine, the expenses are adding up and they are only expected to increase. Right now, including the ultrasound scheduled tomorrow we are at the $1500 mark and pending on the results she may need inpatient treatment or something else; we truly do not know at this point. I will update as soon as I have more answers, but this is where we are at currently.
I know it may seem crazy to some to spend this kind of money and time on a cat. But if you know us at all you know our animals are our entire world. They are the heart of our home and the best part of each day. Our pets, are our children. And I know that statement makes some cringe, but to two people without human children they fill that void for us. We would move heaven and earth to save any of them so I am here to ask for some help in doing so for our sweet Luna.
Luna is just seven years old, she is the sweetest girl in the entire world. We are just trying to find answers and see if we can get her back to herself and feeling better.
I know this time of year is hard for most, so if all you can do is share this post, it would mean the world to me.
Thank you all in advance.
