Hal Lubarsky is afflicted with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare eye disease that has slowly robbed him of sight. As a well-known poker player, Hal was the first blind player to place in the World Series of Poker. Now, totally blind, he relies on the aid of a reader who sits behind him at the tables and acts as his “eyes”. Unfortunately, things have only gotten worse for Hal in recent years. Diabetes has diminished his hearing and put him in a wheelchair. He also must undergo dialysis three times a week.
To top it off, recently, Hal has been told by his doctor that he will pass within a year or so if he does not get a kidney transplant. His insurance only covers approximately 80% of the procedure and none of the expensive after-surgery cost needed to maintain the new kidney. Hal does not have sufficient means to pay for the surgery and the ongoing expenses.
As his good friend, I am hoping that, with your assistance, we can help save Hal by generating funds to help him with these exorbitant costs.
