Non-Profit Blood Testing for the Trans Community

TL;DR: We’re raising funds to set up a non-profit service providing affordable blood testing for the UK trans community.

Trans healthcare in the UK is in shambles. Access to basic hormone testing, essential for safe hormone replacement therapy, is out of reach for many due to prohibitive costs (GenderGP, for example, charges £100 every 3 months for testosterone and estrogen tests). Moreover, many NHS GPs refuse to provide these tests, even as a vital harm reduction measure.

We refuse to accept this status quo. We’re working to set up a non-profit hormone testing service tailored for the UK trans community. Through partnerships with labs, we’ve managed to slash the cost of a basic at-home test for testosterone and estrogen to less than £30 (UK postage included). We plan to offer other tests in the future.

How would the service look?

1. Person securely orders a kit to their address through our website

2. Person pokes finger with lancet and collects a blood sample

3. Person sends blood sample in return envelope to the lab

4. Lab sends back results within a few days

What do we need money for?

1. Admin to set things up properly (company registration; ICO fees; website domain registration; a virtual address so we don’t get egged by transphobes) - £150
