Who are we?
We are a group of students funding our project not just for our class grade but also to fulfill our passion of becoming professional filmmakers in the industry and growing as creatives. Please consider contributing to our film so that we can make a project worth submitting to festivals.
What inspired this story for you?
The inspiration behind "No Space Between" is loosely rooted in the experiences of lucid dreaming. When someone experiences lucid dreaming, they become aware that they are dreaming and can even control aspects of the dream. It can be experienced as an exploration of reality, perception, and consciousness. While this film isn't exactly about lucid dreaming, it became a powerful starting point for a world of shifting layers between reality and illusion for Parker.
Why do you want to direct this story?
During my time throughout college, I have struggled to understand my identity with profound confusion regarding what my place in this world really means. I believe that this is a universal experience for people, especially when navigating complex stages of personal growth. There is much uncertainty throughout this lifetime, and that lack of control over the known can make for an unsettling and isolating feeling.
What is important about this story?
The central goal of No Space Between is to spark curiosity in the audience. I want viewers to immerse themselves into the same disorientation that Parker feels with the boundaries of his own reality. While the narrative structure of this short film was inspired by the concept of lucid dreaming, the story itself is less focused on the dream state and more on the emotional journey of Parker as he tries to make sense of a world that is disorienting.
How does this story appeal to audiences?
Ultimately, I hope that No Space Between ignites a sense of wonder and curiosity in the audience. I want them to leave with more questions than answers. Whether through personal experience with lucid dreaming, a confusing path of self-discovery, or questioning of reality and identity, I hope that this short film can help the audience to feel a little less alone in their journey, and as a result, feel a little less alone in mine.
Lex wanted to put together a project that would be as thrilling an experience for those who have a hand in making it as those who are sitting in the audience. And for a group of passionate film students in their senior year at the University of North Texas, filmmakers flocked to the call. Our film is about a young man named Parker who is experiencing an other-worldly event. After a fateful meeting at his mediocre job in a dead-end town, Parker finds himself wrapped up in a much larger conspiracy that leads him to question what "reality" actually means.
