Newborn Baby Mia
Don protégé
Yesterday around 4pm my sister Diana who was 37 weeks pregnant gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Mia. Diana and Evan though filled with joy, sadly found out quickly that Mia needed support breathing and doctor's feared she had a heart problem. Diana waited alone while Evan and my mother joined Mia in the NICU in Cheyenne at CRMC. Due to weather conditions Mia's lifeflight helicopter was delayed over and over again from the time she was born at 4:28 PM until 12:40 AM. Then, she was unable to be taken by helicopter and had a longer journey in a plane, which she took off in, alone, at 12:40AM and arrived at 3am after two ambulance rides to and from airports. All in all, it took nearly 12 hours for baby to get to Children's Hospital after being born in distress. This was an agonizing wait as Diana and Evan watched her struggle to breath.
Upon arrival, Mia received numerous tests and medications for her heart and lungs. She has since been diagnosed with Respiratory Distress Syndrome. She continues to be intubated, has an IV in her forehead, and has had to have procedures done to take air out of the outside of her lungs (pnuemothorax). She is also currently receiving oxygen and is needing support getting phlegm removed. We are currently holding her up in prayer as she receives this urgent care for her precious lungs and heart. Her mother and father are with her and her two sisters are with us and Grandma.
I am writing this GoFundMe in hopes of supporting Diana and Evan in any way possible and to relieve in some way any financial stress that comes their way as they stay close to their baby and out of work until she is recovered and able to come home to them and her two sisters, Ava (8). and Millie (18 months).
Thank you for taking the time to read this beautiful family's story and for taking a moment to pray for Mia. As a NICU mom myself, I pray for all the parents, families, and babies who have experienced the world stopping as their baby fights for their life.
With love,
Raquel (Diana's older sister)
