Neil Cameron, Marine Engineer

Donación protegida
Three weeks ago, October 15, 2020, our lives changed forever.  My husband, Neil and I have lived in the Venice area for almost thirty years as well as a part of the business community for that long as well.  My husband owned Cameron Marine Services which he built by himself through his work ethic and reputation.  He is a Marine Engineer from England and use to work on big oil and dive rigs as a Chief Engineer.  He brought his skills to Venice where anyone with a diesel engine or generator on a boat knew who Neil was.

Over the last five or six years, his love began with guns, reloading bullets and target shooting.  One of Neil's friends, a gunsmith and a Navy man who had the same love of target shooting, would get together and reload bullets and target shoot on the weekends.  This particular weekend was no different.  On that day in October, they were working on reloading bullets as they have done hundreds of times.  Something went wrong and an explosion occurred, burning over 60% of Neil's body with third degree burns.  Because of his Merchant Navy training, he stayed calm and called 911 and explained what had happened.  When the paramedics got there, Neil had begun to let the shock take over his body and he was unable to move.   He was air flighted to Blake Medical Center Burn Unit where he was immediately intubated and put in ICU where has been since he arrived.

The doctors are estimating a 5-6 month stay and about 18 months of painful rehabilitation.  His bills have already climbed well over six figures  in just over three weeks.  He does have insurance but there is a lot of expense that is not paid.  We have medical bills beginning to come into our home  that will need to be paid.   Plus, as an eight time cancer survivor since 2010, my husband has been my caregiver and our main source of income.  Now he will no longer be able to work because of his hands and legs being the most severely burned.  So not only dealing with Neil's medical expenses but because of Neil's forced retirement due to his disabilities our living expenses have now become a concern for us.

My family and I are sincerely asking for help to manage Neil's care and keep us moving forward so I can continue to work as a Realtor and try to provide an income regardless of my health issues.   This need is immediate and with God's help, Neil will recover quicker than the doctors have said.  The long term care is the biggest concern at this point and we are determined as a family to do whatever is needed for my precious husband.  Thank you for your generous donation in helping Neil.
