Ned Shaw Borneo Expedition - 72 Hole Golf Challenge

Hi!

My name is Ned and I am fundraising for a three week expedition to Borneo in the summer of 2026. The expedition will be organised through Camps International and works to help local communities to reach the 17 sustainability goals set out by the United Nations. The expedition will spend time in three different villages in Borneo. Projects which I will be working on include constructing education facilities to benefit the younger and future generations, improving drainage systems to facilitate cleaner and healthier living and establishing community farming programmes to improve food security and aid self-sufficiency. There will also be environmental activities including beach clean-ups and planting of trees to reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere.

Whilst in Borneo, I will also have the opportunity to take a four day course to complete my PADI Open Water Scuba Diving Qualification, giving me a life long skill, and also visit an Orangutang Sanctuary to see the vital work being done to protect these animals. The whole trip will offer a massive insight into another part of the World and learning what can be done to support it.

There is a cost to this and whilst I am working part-time around my A-Levels to raise funds, I am looking for some support in reaching my goal. Rather than just ask for money I am going to take on a challenge that will be both physically and mentally demanding for which I am looking for sponsorship. In June 2025 (exact date TBC), I will be taking on the challenge of playing 72 Holes of Golf in One Day at Broadway Golf Club (the equivalent of four rounds back to back). To put this in some numbers, this will take me around 12 to 14 hours and will require to me to cover around 26 miles in distance and take around 300 individual shots which is quite a challenge! I am very grateful to the Club Captain and Committee for giving me permission to do this at the beautiful course at Broadway.

Any amount that you are able to sponsor me will be gratefully appreciated and motivate me to complete my golf challenge whilst also help me get to Borneo. As an incentive, for three of the rounds I will be looking for playing partners (up to three per round or nine players in total) so for anyone that is willing to sponsor me for £50 (or more) I would happily welcome you to join me for a round (first come, first served).
