Mauritius Oil spill U.K. fund Raising

UK Mauritian Helpers Team Summary Our cause: The bulk carrier MV Wakashio ran aground on a coral reef on the 25th July 2020. It leaked an estimated 1,000 tons of fuel into the surrounding waters and was found to be a 272km spill. Not only did this cause pollution to the marine ecosystem but also to the air as local residents breathed heavy vapours of oil. Beez100s and team decided to get together to raise money to send to NGO charities that have been working to help nature and the affected people. Furthermore, our team wants to share how the funded work is carried out so that donors and members of the public are part of the journey. Our team: We are a group of Instagrammers of Mauritian background who are based in the UK. We were brought together by Bernadette Soupe with the aim of helping the devastating effects of the Mauritian oil spill. Bernadette is CEO of Beez100s and Helpers Homeless non-profit charity. She has previous experience in fund-raising; she has worked and helped the homeless in London for the past 5 years and has won an award for International Women’s day for unsung hero for all her efforts with the homeless. Our relationship to the parties: Throughout the fund-raising, we have been searching for NGOs who are passionate about their cause and have been actively involved with the oil spill work. We are happy to say that we will be working closely with the following organisations: • Dis- Moi – https://dismoi.org The NGO was founded and in 2012 for work with promoting human rights and environmental rights in Mauritius and in the Indian Ocean. • Monad Foundation – https://monadfoundation.org/index.html The NGO was founded in 2020 following COVID-19 to eradicate poverty (through food, shelter, clothing, education and self-development) with focus on helping children. • EcoMode Society – https://www.facebook.com/480356722172851/posts/ecomode-society-is-an-ngo-active-since-2012our-missionprotect-and-conserve-the-t/1509968822544964/ The NGO was founded in 2012 for work towards protecting and conserving the terrestrial and marine environment. Our work with the parties: We want to help manage the different effects of the oil spill with the mentioned NGOs and have agreed to the following proposals: • Dis-Moi – (To be completed) • Monad Foundation – (To be completed) • EcoMode Society – To help restore the coral reef affected by the oil spill: to grow corals from the affected oil spill area and onto 10 spider-frames (each 1m x1m) for embedding into the affected coral reef.
