The non-profit World War II Foundation will chronicle in a one-hour educational documentary film for American Public Television three generations of the family of USS Arizona survivor Raymond Haerry as they return to Pearl Harbor to put their father’s ashes back aboard the battleship.
View an actual internment ceremony by of another USS Arizona veteran by clicking here:
Ray Haerry, Sr. passed away in September. In April of 2017, the Haerry family will have their father’s ashes interred on the Arizona so he can once again be with the over 1,000 shipmates who lost their lives on December 7, 1941.
The WWII Valor in the Pacific National Monument staff will give the World War II Foundation unprecedented behind the scenes access to the entire process of reuniting a USS Arizona crewman with his long passed shipmates, from the planning on paper to the actual dive where a sealed box with the veteran’s ashes are put aboard the great battleship.
We follow the family all the way from the East Coast of the United States to Hawaii and through the entire emotional process of rejoining their father/grandfather/great-grandfather with his crew mates.
A story that has never been brought to film until now.
The hour-long documentary will air nationally on over 100 PBS stations in the fall of 2017.
