My Mama's Recovery Fund

If you know me you know my mother, and if you know my mother, you know a truly kind generous compassionate devout god of a woman. On Saturday, January 13th I got a call at 7:30am from my mom; she had fallen...badly. She had slipped while cleaning. She hit her head as her right leg buckled and she slammed her knee against the hardwood floor. Before the true pain set in and in a state of impending shock all by herself she made her way down three flights of stairs to the first floor to the couch before she called for any help. I was in LA at the time, but luckily her sister and god daughter could come to her aid immediately and I caught the red-eye flight out to help her soon thereafter. My mom has a tendency to sugar coat the gravity of things, but as I arrived to her at 9am I was able to see just how serious things were.

She wasn’t sure if she would be able to get any care because we just recently were forced to leave our previous healthcare provider, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and switch to Medicaid. The injury happened in a sort of grey area between this transition so she wasn't even able to get immediate care (#Trump). In fact, she didn’t see a doctor until 5 days after the accident. If her injury wasn't drastic, it wouldn't have been such an issue. However, she has a pretty dramatic fracture in her right tibial plateau rendering her unable to walk, as well as very bad arthritis. My mother BROKE her leg and couldn’t get immediate care for it. So after almost three pretty hectic and unnecessarily complicated weeks of seeing doctors, getting X-rays and healthcare referrals appointments. She is scheduled for a total knee replacement (TKR) today, on the first of February; I’m writing this while she is being prepped for surgery.

This money will go towards paying for the various parts of the medical bill, inpatient and outpatient charges, physical therapy and easing the burden on my mother since she won’t be able to continue working with her previous labor intensive job. Anything you can give would so graciously accepted and appreciated. Thank you so so much and we love you.
