Music Project Truck Repair

Hi Everyone,

Reuben and Ruby here. Over the past year we’ve been working on an awesome project with Jilkminggan Aboriginal Community in the NT. We’ve delivered an entire studio’s worth of equipment, and run intensive workshops on recording, songwriting and writing and recording songs in Kriol and Mangarrayi Language for the kids to sing along with. We did one week in September, and two weeks in January. The band is sounding great, and they’re hoping to play at Barunga festival in June. We have been working long days, but the project has been really positive for the community, so it’s been rewarding.

As we were driving down in our rental truck, delivering all the instruments and recording gear we picked up in Darwin, we had an accident in a parking lot which damaged the top rear section of the truck. Unfortunately, overhead damage is not covered by any form of insurance, so even though we had our premium insurance, we’ve just been hit with a whopping repair bill to the tune of $8,239. It’s not covered by the insurance, and it’s not covered by the grant which funded the project either. As we were employed by Jilkminggan Aboriginal Coorperation, they would have had to pay it, but we’re not comfortable putting the cost back on the community which hired us in the first place, so we’re paying it. To be honest, it’s been a massive stress on what has otherwise been a really positive and beneficial experience.

At the moment Ruby is bearing the brunt of this cost, but we’re hoping that if enough people contribute and share this fundraiser, no-one has to wear too much of the cost, and we can share more of this awesome project with you. Please don’t donate more than you are comfortable with. If 80 people chucked in $100 we’d be absolutely sweet. We'll aim to raise 6k, and we'll cover the rest.
