El Higuero, located in Gaspar Hernandez (Provincia Espaillat) is a rural community with several hard-working families living in poverty. In many of the homes there is no running water and electricity is spotty and limited for most. The small village has one school with approximately 32 school age children who attend. With such limited resources, these children whose ages range from 5-16, are forced to learn in the same classrooms regardless of their ages. Sports and extra-curricular activities are non-existing.

It is why, I have begun this fundraising page. As someone whose family was raised in this village, I would like to give back and help this community.

A few years ago, there were plans to build a basketball court for this village and several organizers and donors provided funds. However, the basketball court was built in a nearby town and not in E Higuero. It is now our turn! The funds gathered from this page will go directly to build a basketball court behind the existing school in El Higuero.
