Leo has been suffering from severe back pain for about five weeks. No treatments or therapies that he tried seemed to be helping, so he went in for an MRI. The results showed that he had a pathological fracture of his T5 vertebrae and it had collapsed, causing the chronic pain. The MRI also showed that he had a malignant lesion growing in this collapsed vertebrae as well as several other vertebrae along his spinal column. His doctors suspected some type of cancer and suggested being admitted to the hospital ASAP so all of the diagnostic tools were readily available. A five-day hospital stay concluded after a biopsy of the vertebrae with the largest lesion.
We are now waiting on results and hope to have an update and more information before the new year.
Discovering this just before the new year means Leo and Mandy must meet their health insurance deductibles twice in a very short period of time.
From Leo:
"Prayers for my family and I will have a great impact and are greatly appreciated. Any contribution is a blessing to our family to help relieve the financial stress as we will soon begin walking through the treatment process."
This news was especially hard to receive during the holiday season. Living in Denver for the past six years, Leo, Mandy and Rose had planned to make their annual trip to Oklahoma City to be with their families on Christmas. But because of the collapsed vertebrae, doctors have advised Leo to avoid travel. Although family members are trying to travel to Denver to help as much as possible, it is still extremely difficult for Leo, Mandy and Rose to be separated from their families in Dallas and OKC.
We are already so thankful for all the positive thoughts and prayers from our friends and family. We will continue updating everyone as we have more information and details.
