Kathy Gauthier (Mr. Paul Gauthier's Wife)

Hi there,

As some of you might have heard, Mr. Gauthier's wife, Kathy was diagnosed with Leukemia just before memorial day.  In true Mr. Gauthier fashion, he did not let this news "out" until the 8th graders finished graduation as he didn't want to put a damper on the students special week.

Many people have reached out to see how they can best help. Paul and Kathy are getting through right now, but as the school year approaches and Paul goes back at work, things may get a little more hectic.  This fundraiser was created to support the every-changing needs of the Gauthiers.

In addition to this fundraiser, because Kathy's treatment is expected to go at least until late November, a carpool schedule will be set up  to help with transporting her to and from treatment.  (Please reach out to me separately if you are willing to help with that. [email editado].)

Here is a little background on what the Gauthier's have been facing thus far:

Just before Memorial Day, Kathy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and began chemotherapy at UNC Hospital Cancer Center almost immediately. This treatment consists of up to 8 cycles, each cycle consisting of 5 days inpatient care, followed by about three weeks of at-home with regular testing and monitoring. The next step in the treatment will be a bone marrow/stem cell transplant, with a lengthy hospital stay followed by a 8-10 week recovery period at home.

 The good news is that Kathy has responded very well to the first cycle of chemo  and is now in remission, but there is a still long road of treatment ahead.
