Mom's caretaker and hospital bills
Don protégé
Hi everyone,
For those of you who don't know, my mother was diagnosed with early dementia a few months ago. Based on information we have gathered from the countless neurologist appointments, it's very likely she has been dealing with this disease for a few years. Unfortunately, since my father was going through hospice for stage IV ocularmelanoma (a cancer that effects the eye sight first and then moves to the liver), we were too preoccupied to notice that my Mother was also dealing with a serious illness. This was about 2 and a half years ago, and once my father passed away in March of 2014 she got noticeably worse. She can not remember my brothers' middle names and she has trouble forming sentences. Because of the rate the disease is progressing at, she already can not be left home alone. My brothers and I are severely struggling to care for her and stay with her constantly while also providing a stable income, especially since my dad has passed. We have been looking into homemakers for her, but they are very expensive. I would also love to go back to school, but right now that is not an option with the amount of time I have to spend caring for my mom. I am hoping to raise enough money to get a nurse for my mom so that I'll have more time to go back to school and provide a more substantial salary for us, and I'm also hoping to be able to pay off some of those hefty hospital bills.
Thank you for your time and consideration, it is greatly appreciated by my family.
Sincerely,
Mary Tourigny
