Laura's fight against Carcinoid Syndrome...a rare cancer not nearly enough people know about!
In 2004 Laura had a carcinoid tumor removed from her colon...problem solved...or so we thought.
In 2010 her health declined and she was diagnosed with Carcinoid Syndrome. A cancer so rare that a majority of people have never heard of it. It’s a chronic illness....symptoms include; skin flushing, facial skin lesions, diarrhea, difficulty breathing and irregular heart beats. For Laura the biggest battle has been the difficulty with her breathing and the restrictions Carcinoid syndrome has placed on her life.
In the winter of 2014 we took a leap of faith...after some sound advice from another carcinoid patient we found ourselves on the way to New Jersey. We were met by a team of specialists...they went right to work. Draining fluid from her heart, biopsies of the lungs but most importantly daily treatments of sandostatin...Carcinoids wonder drug....it decreases the symptoms and has given Laura the chance to enjoy more 'normal' days...and less 'cancer' days as we call them! After some success we are now faced with the reality of medical debt after numerous lengthy and scary hospital stays...
The bills keep coming in....and will continue to...carcinoid syndrome is something Laura will live with forever…Our goal is to raise money to help cover Laura’s medical expenses, and future sandostatin treatments so she can enjoy more ‘normal’ days.
