I will have an application link posted here tomorrow to start the process of finding her the home she deserves.
THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Our community is truly amazing. I know Eric would be so happy to see this.

My name is Melissa and this is a long read but if you have the time, please read and help Miss Sassy.
She needs a full work up with labs before her spay, a heartworm test, updated vaccinations and her spay with recovery meds. I have a written quote from a vet that I will provide if someone would like to see it and a couple of verbals. The shelter gave me her records and she was due in Dec. She deserve the best care. My original Facebook post got over 1,000 shares, so please donate if you can, if you can't please share this fundraiser Miss Sassy and lets pull together as a community to help her.

Here is her’s and Eric’s story... For over year, I had been noticing a homeless man and his black dog on the corner of Fairfield and Palafox. It took me a few months to finally give him a few $$. There was just something tugging at my heart with him and her. One day last year, early summertime, I stopped and talked to talk to him and asked if he or his dog needed anything. He said they were OK, and he introduced me to Miss Sassy. He told me she was all he had, and he has had her since she was a puppy. After this day, I would stop and give him a few $, food snacks, etc when I saw them, and have brief conversations. He rarely asked for stuff for himself, he would ask for things for Sassy like pink toenail polish, a harness, or a sweater. She always appeared well cared for and was always right by his side. When I would ask how he faired through a thunderstorm, he would always say, “Oh, we have a pretty secure fort down by the tracks” His only concern was Hurricanes. He NEVER smelled of alcohol and was always so appreciative of anything I was able to get him or her. His favorite candy was a root beer flavored candy that I had never heard of but found at Walmart. Fast forward to recently, about 2 weeks ago, he called me(yes he had a phone that I put some minutes on) saying he was cold and wet. It was very cold at this time, I was not feeling the greatest and he had recently been forced from the camp he had called home for a while. He had set him and her up on the corner of Fairfield and Palafox back in the woods a bit. I told him to give me a few and I would see if I could work out something.I was able to book a rm at the Red Roof Inn on Davis for fairly cheap and rode over to get him and her. It was dark when I got there and I could tell he was not feeling well. I got him to the room later that night, got him settled with her right by his side. At one point, she lost sight of him as he was going up the stairs to the room and became very anxious but relaxed as soon as she saw him. The next morning, I asked Paul to go get him and take him back to where he was staying. Paul did not hesitate to do this. I checked on him that Friday before the big storms came through, he had not been able to make it back to his camp but was in another person’s camp area. He assured me he was OK and Sassy was right there by him. The storms came through, and I was not able to get back over to check on him or her until that Wed. As I pulled up to the area, the other homeless person who Eric was friends with meets me and just says “I’m so sorry, Eric passed away”. He went on to say that Eric went to sleep Sunday afternoon and never woke up..I asked about Sassy, and was told she was OK at this time, but she would be going to stay with another homeless person living under the Fairfield bridge. I have done nothing but worry about Sassy since last Wednesday when I found out about Eric. I even rode down to the Fairfield bridge yesterday looking for her and saw a dog by the fence but I could not confirm it was her. I didn’t stop to ask Eric’s friend because emotionally I could not do it yet. So today, I drove to the corner. She was there with the friend, who said the other person whom Eric trusted with her had her tied up to a fence in the cold yesterday and the night before. He said he went and got her late yesterday afternoon and had been waiting to hear from me. He said he knew Eric trusted me and asked if I could help find Sassy a good home. So here we are….
Many of you may know exactly who I am talking about, and I know many of you have probably seen Eric and Miss Sassy if you have been over on Fairfield in Pensacola. I cannot keep Sassy, but I refuse to let her go to someone who ties her up in freezing cold weather, I know Eric would never have allowed this. I have learned just recently that he would take her to the shelter and get free vet care for her. I’m working on getting those records.
I picked her up today, and on the ride home once she settled in the car, she laid her head on the backseat where Eric sat the night I took him and her to the hotel. She has been bathed, is very well behaved, super sweet and knows basic commands. Found out she loves water. She’s warm and safe for now but I need help finding her a good home. I have made this post public, so please share her story and let’s help get Sassy.
