When I look back on my life since graduating university, what have I learned?
1. A supportive community changes everything.
2. Service/ministry work is equal parts extremely fulfilling and extremely difficult.
3. The English are wonderful. And weird. And wonderfully weird.
4. I really, really, really need Jesus!
So, when you add all these facts together and stir what do you get?
In a turn of events that might make some of you proud, some of you scratch you heads, and many of you laugh I’m moving back to the U.K. to join a monastic (yes, monastic as in monks) community!
The Community of St. Anselm, hosted by the Archbishop of Canterbury at his home in Lambeth Palace, is ecumenical and focuses on prayer, study, and service. I was selected from hundreds of applicants to live there from January-August 2021 alongside 15 other young people from across the world for a year of silent contemplation, service work with London-based charities, and theological study. Community members live by a rule of life that is designed to create a strong spiritual foundation and equip them to live lives of integrity.
I would be very grateful for your support in any form: financial, through prayer, or simply words of affirmation! Any money raised will go towards helping me cover the expenses associated with community life (flights, visa expenses, food, lodging etc.).
