My name is Breean. As I lost my vision I felt vulnerable, and afraid to go outside. The world became dangerous; I fell, got lost, strangers and cars were terrifying. The day I met my collaborator, I had a black eye from walking into a tree branch. My collaborator, Jagadish is a perception engineer, who develops vision systems for robots. I told him about my struggles as a blind woman, and he told me about his desire to use artificial intelligence to help people. Combine our knowledge, we developed a device to help people who are blind navigate the world.
Blindness has left me with less awareness of my surroundings. I use my hearing and touch to find my way, but I need more information about the people, cars, animals, buildings and pathways around me. MIRA captures information through cameras and stereo vision, processes the data with artificial intelligence, and provides continuous audio description of the world.

Your donation will be used to:
- Expand our team
- Procure electronic components, and
- Beta test our prototype.
With your donation, and our volunteer community, our goal is to perfect the hardware, software and wearable components of our device. Once tested, we will release our open source software to the public for free! Together we can create a guidance system that will forever improve the lives of people who are blind.
