Mimur's road to recovery
Wednesday Oct 1 our aloof little 12 pound girl dachshund Mimur with stoic personality and wandering ways burrowed out of our yard to explore. She was attacked by a neighborhood Labrador, she managed to escape her attacker but not before staining several life threatening wounds.
Thankfully the Labradors owners were able to catch Mimur and take her to the local veterinarian as we were not home. They were able to contact us, however, wounds too great for them to treat; she was taken to Summit Animal Hospital. Amazed that she even survived the attack with such horrific wounds to so small a dog her initial assessment of several bites, lacerations, obvious abdominal trauma, and lack of signs of spinal damage looked promising for surgery and eventual recovery.
5 long hours of surgery for repairs of multiple deep lacerations, puncture wounds, intestinal damage, and hernias. Miraculously no broken bones were founds, unfortunately one kidney was damaged so badly and torn from her abdomen that it was removed. Severe trauma of her initial wounds, bruising to her lungs and abdominal area will require her to be in an oxygen tent, and multiple Ivs. At this point Doctors are still optimistic given Murmur’s shear will and determination to sit up and try and escape yet again!
Mimur has survived a terrible attack and surgery, but her fight has really just begun. Now Infections, kidney failure, reactions to transfusions and loss of spirit are her biggest challenges. Thankfully Mimur the rat hunting dachshund has the spirit of a Lion. Seeing Mimur sit up and look us in the eyes gives us hope. Please have hope with us, help Mimurs fight to survive with prayers, thoughts and donations to Mimur at Summit Animal Hospital at 253.WUF.1114 tell them you want to donate to Mimur’s Fight.
