Mimi Davis Breast Cancer Fund

Hello to all of our Mimi supporters, friends, and family.

As some of you may know, on January 4, 2023, Mimi discovered a lump on her breast.  Unfortunately, Mimi has a family history of this, with her mom passing from breast cancer in 2018. Being the intelligent and proactive girl she is, Mimi made an appointment right away with her primary care doctor.  Eventually she was referred to a specialist where she had an ultrasound and biopsy.

On January 10, 2023, it was confirmed that Mimi has breast cancer.  After more testing and an MRI it was discovered that she has triple-negative breast cancer, a type of cancer that can grow quickly and requires surgery and chemotherapy, with the potential for radiation as the last step.

All of this was a lot to process, but an added factor was the effect chemotherapy has on fertility.  Mimi’s oncologist, Dr. Kolla, suggested that it was best to undergo fertility preservation (freezing her eggs), in order to protect her eggs in case she wanted to have little Mimis running around one day.  With the need to move fast, it was decided that Mimi will move forward with freezing her eggs and undergo a lumpectomy before starting chemotherapy.

The current schedule for Mimi’s care is for her to meet with the fertility doctors on January 20, 2023, and hopefully move forward with freezing her eggs as soon as possible.  Surgery is tentatively scheduled for February 3, 2023.  And chemotherapy would follow three to four weeks post-surgery, with chemo treatment lasting about 20 weeks.

There is no doubt that Mimi is a resilient fighter.  We have no doubt that Mimi will finish this treatment stronger than ever before, nonetheless it is a process and her chemotherapy regimen was described as fairly intense. This fundraising effort was created to help alleviate the medical expenses Mimi will be facing as she tackles cancer.  Mimi has always faced animosity with a kind heart, a smile on her face, and a good sense of humor.  I’m sure we can all agree that Mimi has lifted us up in some way and we look forward to doing the same for her as she fights this battle.
