Help Michelle & Family Avoid Eviction

Donation protected
Update (4/11) - I spoke to the property manager this morning. She told me that the building's owners are sticklers about following what's on paper. She stated I would need to come up with the amount on the paperwork by the 18th, which would halt the eviction proceedings and we would be able to arrange a payment plan for the month of April. I also informed her that my upcoming paycheck does not arrive until the 25th, but she is unable to grant me an extension until then.
I want to thank everyone who donated. I am appreciative of the love and support.

Update 4/12 - I am currently $822 short of the $2321 needed to keep my current housing and to arrange a payment plan for April.

Something I forgot to add - the reason why I was having issues receiving any sort of rental assistance is because I did not receive an official notice until March 18th. Most organizations and churches cannot and will not help without you receiving a notice from your property manager or landlord. I am still waiting to hear back from the multiple agencies I have contacted. I am still in the works of contacting other agencies that was suggested.

The one thing every unhoused person shares is this: No one intended to be homeless."

Hello, Quick Quack family. My name is Michelle Brown, from 2610. I'm here to humbly ask for donations because I'm at risk of becoming unhoused again and would love to be able to keep and maintain my current housing situation.

Long story short, I had been unemployed for 2 months before being accepted into the Quick Quack family, during which I have fallen behind on rent. With the financial setbacks we are currently facing, I have received an official 30-day pay or quit notice from my property manager. If we were to be evicted, that eviction stays on our rental history for up to 7 years, which can make it more difficult to acquire and gain housing if we were to lose our current housing and as well as contributing to the homeless crisis many are facing or at risk of facing.

As someone who was formerly unhoused from August 2023 until March 2024, we're terrified, to be completely honest. Our experience with being unhoused has been difficult, stressful, exhausting, traumatic, and frustrating, as well as the feelings of hopelessness that took effect on our mental, emotional, and physical health, leaving scars that remain unhealed. It is something we wish to never have to experience again. While unhoused, I worked hard, going to/from work from the respite center (3 months) as well as living in a van we once owned (3 ½ months) with our 3 dogs during the winter season, while doing the footwork without receiving any help or assistance from family, the respite center's housing coordinator, or government/federal assistance. There have been times I wanted to give up but didn't and kept pushing myself forward with my dad's voice in my head repeating, "Remember you have Marine blood in you and Marines never give up," which helped keep my head up.

Although we have been housed for over a year now, we have yet to truly be able to enjoy what we worked hard for, being unable to get ourselves out of survival mode.

I have been trying for the last 2 months to seek some form of rental assistance or funding from local agencies, churches, organizations, etc., but the assistance within my zip code is extremely limited as is funding/donations, and any assistance considered is prioritized by living situation (disability, seniors, dependents). In retrospect, my husband and I would be considered low priority when it comes to rental assistance/funding, due to the fact that neither of us are disabled or a senior and we do not have children or dependents living in the home. Even if I were to be approved for rental assistance, it can take anywhere from 72 hours to 3 months to receive the funds needed.

Asking for help is something I normally don't do, especially when it comes to financial support. With the lack of funding/assistance (government or otherwise) coupled with many individuals and families experiencing hardships, I'm at a loss of ideas, options, and running out of time.

I appreciate and am grateful for any help I'm blessed with.

Thank you!

"Those who suffered from mental illness or substance abuse — and crushing poverty — still will have those struggles, of course, but now they can face them with the knowledge of a secure place to sleep every night. That matters. Think of a problem you have faced — and how much harder it would have been if you had had no place to sleep, shower, store your possessions, or use the bathroom."
