Metoskie's Marathon

My name is Alan Metoskie, and I'm training to run the New York Marathon! 

But to race, I have to raise at least $4,000 for cancer research...

by Nov. 1st!!!

You heard right folks, I won’t be running for fun, or fitness, or even my ravenous  ego!  Instead, I’ll be running for a little something I'm calling “charity”...

here's why:

ON THE HORRORS OF MULTIPLE MYELOMA

Multiple myeloma is a  cancer of the bone marrow. It may not be real popular, but trust me... its bad. B-A-D bad. Sure, there’s treatment, but there's no cure. Once you’ve got it, you're pretty screwed.

And it never sets up shop alone either, ohhhhh no, multiple myeloma brings all sorts of friends along for the ride: bone pain, bone lesions, anemia, kidney failure, and a whole host of infections along the way. Sounds like fun right?

It usually sets in when the patient is about 70, and they usually die within the first five years of diagnosis.

In my family, they die in their 50s.

My grandmother died of it before I was born.

My father died while I was in college.

You see, folks… there’s nothing more delicious to incurable bone cancers than the sweet sweet marrow of the Metoskie bloodline. They can’t get enough of the stuff! And they like to get at it when we’re young and fresh and still full of life (and who can blame them)! In fact, there’s no known way to prevent it. No risk factors to be avoided. It’s all genetic. And if it runs in your family, you're 4-5 times more likely to get it. Presumably families just like mine! (lucky me.)

My point here is this: multiple myeloma has been on my shit list for some time now. And I hereby ask you to officially put it on your shit list as well!
