Memorial for Marie
Donación protegida
Marie was a young, beautiful, outgoing, funny and friendly girl with a desire to see the world. She arrived in America in 2015 and lived in our home for 10 months. She became a part of our family and had a major impact on our lives and the lives of those around us. She never complained about anything and made the best of any situation. She attended North Hagerstown High School and played soccer, basketball and lacrosse. She made many friends here and everyone loved her. It was a sad day when I had to take her to the airport to fly home to Germany. But Marie kept in touch with us. Every day. She told us what she was doing and how life was in Germany. She had many friends over there too and a loving family. She came back to the United States in 2017 and stayed for six weeks. We decided we would meet every year, somewhere different so we could see the world together. I was planning on flying to Amsterdam to meet her and see the town where she was thinking about living and attending college.
Marie had been planning a trip around Europe with her best friend after she graduated from school. She had been planning the trip since she was 12 years old. She had a spreadsheet and everything and had worked three jobs to save up money to go. She was so excited. She sent me pictures of all the places she was visiting and she was having so much fun. On Thursday, my husband's birthday, I didn't hear from her. She always made sure she didn't miss someone's birthday. It seemed strange to me that I hadn't heard from her. I finally decided to reach out to her sister to see if she had heard from Marie.
Tragically, Marie had been struck by a tram in Budapest. She died from her injuries. I couldn't believe what I was reading. Maybe there was a translation error that the word meant something else. It couldn't be true.
I would like to raise funds for Marie's Memorial to send to her family. No one was expecting this. Not of a girl so young and full of life. All funds raised will be sent to Marie's Mom in Germany. They are a wonderful family and raised Marie to be a wonderful person. I love them all and will never forget Marie.
