Hi, my name is Elizabeth Vargas and I am one of Melissa’s daughter in laws.

On July 19, 2023, Melissa took her last breaths comfortably at MGH. She was full of life and love. She is the daughter of Stephen and Deborah Thompson, the sister of Jennifer Thompson, the mother of Edward Vargas, Sergio Vargas, Alejandro Vargas, and Jared Vargas. She is also a grandmother, better known as UMA, to her 9 beautiful grandchildren: Gianni, Aliyana, Kaylani, Malakai, Alejandro Jr, Edward III, Jenevieve, Evangeline, and Avery. She is the mother in law of Elizabeth, Crystal, and Anaeli. Melissa was also a friend, a stay-at-home Uma, an upcoming nail tech, a listener, a provider, and all around one of the most wholesome human beings in the entire world.

One of her biggest achievements she was so proud of was her sobriety. Some of Melissa’s favorites were music almost every genre, except Opera. Her favorite colors were every and any purples, and teal. She loved food especially bahn mi, pizza, cannolis, and even Elizabeth’s homemade cakepops. She loved doing her nails, having heart-to-heart conversations, loved being a mother and grandmother. She loved going out even if it was just a car ride to get fresh air and enjoy nature. She knew how to make you smile, laugh, and be confident in who you are. She was the best all around and she knew how much we all loved her dearly. She loved all her kids and grandkids and always made sure they knew that every day. She would want everyone she knew personally to know that she loves you all very much and that this isn’t a goodbye but a we will meet again one day.
