Our Story
On Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at around 11:30am, My uncle Jim Kern was caught in an electrical explosion while at work in Las Vegas. He sustained second and third degree burns over 62% of his body, and is now fighting for his life.
His wife, Heidi Kern was in Salt Lake City, Utah, visiting her daughter who had just had a baby. She immediately flew to Las Vegas to be with Jim.
They are looking at costly expenses including medical costs not covered by insurance and living expenses while Jim is unable to work, and while Heidi is on a leave of absence to aid in his recovery.
Since Jim was working at a business he owns, his insurance policy excludes a business owner from workman's comp. Heidi has insurance through her work, but it will still be quite costly.
How You Can Help
They are facing quite a fight for Jim's life, and they could use financial support during this long journey to recovery.
With so much to be concerned about, Jim's life at the top of the list, they have a long road ahead of them. In a best-case scenario, Jim has a year or more of recovery, and may never be able to return to the same line of work. I am setting up this gofundme to help offset some of these expenses.
