Medical Care for Kate and Baby Boy

When Kate and Nathan went in for their twenty-week ultrasound they were informed that their baby has a rare condition called Heterotaxy (info on heterotaxy syndrome) which causes malformation of internal organs. After many appointments, tests and echocardiograms, the doctors determined that their baby boy's heart is on the right side of his body, oriented to the right, and has many congenital defects that will require multiple extensive surgeries after he's born. 
 
Currently, the plan is for Kate to give birth in Boston in June. Doctors have told them to plan on staying there for 6 weeks around the birth of the baby. 
 
Many people have asked how they can support Kate and Nathan during this difficult and uncertain time. While they are very grateful to receive fantastic medical care at Boston Children's Hospital, the frequent trips from Maine to Massachusetts to meet with specialists require a great deal of time off of work and money to pay for travel, lodging and specialist's services not covered by insurance.
