Medical and Living Cost for My Mom's Burn Injuries

Hello, my name is Derrick, I'm fundraising for my mother Dora.

On Saturday, September 23, 2023, my mom was cooking three 160 oz pots of pozole for our church activity celebrating fiestas patrias. She was able to get 2 pots into the kitchen without a problem. While she was moving the third pot from her car to a rolling cart, she tripped on a cement parking curb, causing her to fall. In an attempt to catch herself she grabbed the edge of the pot filled with fresh off the stove pozole pot and tipped it over, pouring the stew onto herself as she hit the ground.

Despite her burns, she was able to gather herself, stood up and brought the pot into the kitchen where she called me. I went immediately and took her to the ER where she currently finds herself in the ICU Burn Unit.

In the Fall, my mom suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on her chest, stomach, face, left arm and hand. The burns cover 20% of her body, due to the burns on her left arm she is unable to lower it or have any use for the moment. Due to her injuries, my mom won't be able to work for at least the next month, most likely several months depending on how she heals.

I've received many offers from my mom's friend's and family wanting to help out or asking where they can donate to help her out. We're immensely grateful for the love and prayers we have received and decided to start this campaign to raise funds to cover her household expenses and medical materials like dressing that she might need to for her wound care. My family and I are making arrangments for our 91 year old grandma who my mom was taking care of to make sure she's taken care of as well, but as a family we want to make sure that my moms needs are met to prevent any unnecessary suffering when it comes to rent, food, or other medical cost.

En el caida, mi mamá sufrió quemaduras de segundo y tercer grado en el pecho, el estómago, la cara, el brazo izquierdo y la mano. Las quemaduras cubren el 20% de su cuerpo, debido a las quemaduras en su brazo izquierdo no puede bajarlo ni tener ningún uso por el momento. Debido a sus lesiones, mi mamá no podrá trabajar durante al menos el próximo mes, probablemente varios meses dependiendo de cómo se recupere.

He recibido muchas ofertas de amigos y familiares de mi madre que quieren ayudar o preguntan dónde pueden donar para ayudarla. Estamos inmensamente agradecidos por el amor y las oraciones que hemos recibido y decidimos iniciar esta campaña para recaudar fondos para cubrir los gastos del hogar y materiales médicos como vendajes que podría necesitar para el cuidado de su herida.
