Friends and Family, I am asking for help. This is my 15-year-old niece, my brother Ken and sister in law Angela’s daughter. She is one of the bravest, toughest girls I have ever met. Last week, after not feeling well for a few days, we received the devastating news that she has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia with a FLT3 abnormality (a rare type of AML). This is a very fast and aggressive cancer, so they are treating it very aggressively with an inpatient chemo treatment and Maya will also need to have a bone marrow transplant. Needless to say, her parents do not want to leave her side and are missing out on work. They will be living out of this hospital for about 6 months. First and foremost, I am BEGGING for the most important thing, lots of prayers and love. This is most important, so please keep Maya and the Shapiro family in your prayers. The love and support they have received since they heard this news has been amazing so far. I am asking for any donations you can give so they can focus on caring for Maya and not have to worry about missing work. Maya could not be in better hands and is at a very renown hospital. Anything you can do to help ease the burden for Ken and Angela, along with their two sons, (one of whom will be going on his first deployment with the Marines next week- so extra prayers there too), would be more than appreciated.
