Running for Mavis
Donation protected
For as long as I can remember, my mother, Mavis Ellis has been a public servant. From always having a foster child in our home, giving back as a “Flying Nurse” in Central America and what has affected my life more than anything else- adopting me at 3yrs old. Her life has always been about everyone else. In this time of need, and for the first time ever, she now needs help from others.
6 weeks ago, my mom fell and broke her hip. After undergoing surgery and rehabilitation, she has been discharged due to lack of progression. My mom is 84 years old without insurance and needing 24 hour care in a skilled nursing facility. In a society lacking social well fare, we are learning very quickly the hardships individuals and families face when a loved one requires this type of assistance with out the funds or long term care to cover the expenses. While we are applying for medical to hopefully assist with some of the costs, her monthly living expenses have quadrupled.
Our family is small. I am the only immediate family she has left to help care for her. We have extended family and friends that have reached out to lend what they can but this is fast becoming a fight that requires an army of support.
Ive chosen to use my history of fitness to try and help her fight the good fight. And, rather than directly ask for money, I’m making a declaration that your donations will help no matter what the size or scope.
Ill be running the San Jose Rock & Roll Half Marathon to help “earn” your support. 100% of your donations will be going to help pay for her 24hr Nursing Care.
If anyone else wishes to run with me, you are welcome with open arms. Please reach out and let me know!
