Hi there! We are Maryland Minza, the University of Maryland's annual premiere South Asian Fusion dance competition. We're a group of enthusiastic students dedicated to fostering cultural awareness by providing a platform for dancers nationwide to promote, share, and advance South Asian fusion dance. While highlighting the beauty of performance and promoting culture, we look to ultimately bridge the power between the South Asian community and dance. We'd love to continue our mission with your help. Through your support, we can ensure a seamless competition experience for dancers across the country to participate at Minza. By helping us reach our goal of $10,000 we will be able to provide various amenities to our dancers and Minza competition staff and volunteers. We deeply appreciate any and all support we can get to ensure our competition runs as smoothly as possible.
This year, we received insufficient funding from our school’s Student Government Association to help fuel our organization for the 2023-24 school year.
Maryland Minza is a 100% student-run 501(c) non-profit organization based in College Park, MD. We have to cover many expenses to ensure that Minza is providing the best that it can to its community, dancers, and staff members. For full transparency purposes, we have indicated a breakdown of the approximate costs we have to still cover before our competition in February 2024:
Transportation ($5,000) - we are offering motorpool van and bus transportation to all our dancers, judges, production staff, volunteers, liaisons, and executive board members during the entirety of our competition weekend.
Hotel Expenses ($3,000) - we cover all hotel expenses for our Minza and production staff members for the two days they are tirelessly working to ensure a successful competition weekend.
Food ($2,500) - we partner with local vendors in the College Park area to cater food to dancers, production staff, Minza volunteers, liaisons, and executive board members from Friday evening to Sunday morning. We also provide snacks such as protein bars, chips, energy drinks, and water at frequent intervals to our dancers and everyone involved with competition.
Mixer Materials ($500) - we host a Mixer event before the competition day to network with dance teams across the country and promote South Asian dance through a non-competitive environment. We have a committee specialized for Mixer who are tirelessly working to organize an event where our mission is successful.
We appreciate any donation amount to further our cause. In addition, if you are interested in a sponsorship opportunity at our event, please email [email redacted]. Thank you so much and we hope to see you at our Minza 6.0 competition on Saturday, February 10th, 2024 at the Jim Rouse Theater in Columbia, MD!
