"White Shoes" Goes To Italy!

My work speaks about identity, the visibility/invisibility of the black body within history and photography. 

I would treasure the opportunty to participate in "Black Portraiture[s] II: Imaging the Black Body and Re-staging Histories",  conference in Italy and contribute to the conversation with my colleagues. I would only be able to do this with your help. The funds would be used for airline, hotel and transportation to and from the venue. Whatever you can give to support my mission would be greatly appreciated

In honor of the conference I have created a series of abstract portraits of women I have drawn strength from their lives and contributions to this country. Harriet Tubman& Sojourner Truth, Shirley Chisholm, Assata Shakur, Betty Shabazz, Coretta Scott, Angela Davis. On 18x24 watercolor paper using acrylic, and cray-pas. In keeping with the theme of the conference “Black Portraiture[s] II: Imaging the Black Body and Re-staging Histories” taking place in Florence, Italy.

$10 Donor Level - The first (10) donors will receive 5x7 picture from the "White Shoes" series.

 $200 Donor Level – The first (6) donors will receive one of the portraits created and signed by me.

 $500 Donor Level – The first (2) donors will receive one artist proof photograph 11x17 from the “White Shoes” series. These pieces are from the beginning of the self-portraits in Brooklyn, off the Atlantic Coast.

 No matter what you donate all contributors will receive a special thank you.
